The Creation of A Cross Stitched Christmas Ornament

First I browse through my 1000 vintage cross stitch patterns for pretty Christmas ones that I want to do that are the right size to fit the wooden hoops. Then, of course, create the item, using different colors than called for in the pattern so it’s really and truly unique, and embellish that with gold metallic thread wherever my creativity takes me.

Next I glue the cloth to the inside of the wooden hoop and close the outer hoop over that, screwing it closed with the topscrew, being very careful to wipe any and all glue away from the cloth. I let that dry, and check to be sure the item cannot be opened and is stable.

After that, I go through my scads of different laces and carefully (yes, oh so very carefully because my fingers are on both sides, OUCH!!!) sew the lace on being careful to scrunch it evenly as I sew it. Finishing touch, creating a beaded hook through the topscrew which is now behind the lace so whomever takes these lovely pieces home can hang them without further ado.

A few peeks at work in progress:

Update on Mauve Mountain Sunrise V-Shawl

How we have grown! In just one sitting, mind you! Over breakfast tea, for that matter. I am so entranced by this color combo I cannot seem to let go of it. We’ve grown for sure, the back is about 1/3 done, almost.

Here’s the progress:

and another lovely shot:

This shawl and it’s matching purse is also reserved for my upcoming shows and will not be sold on my website. However I very well may feature it there with a page of it’s own when it’s done.
